Twisted Tuesday Challenge

Hi all, I'm back with another post for today....just finished my card for my first ever Twisted Tuesday Challenge. I need to get it posted by 9:00 central time so hopefully I will slide in before then. The challenge is to make a card with a child in mind with a funny sentiment...Here is my card:

And here is the inside...not fancy but .....
As we all know I can rarely do a card without a little glitter and bling...this was no exception...lol..

I hope it meets the requirements,

Thanks for stopping by,
Until next time,

Happy 50th Birthday....lol

Well today my friends my little brother turns 50, the 4th of 6 children to hit this milestone. Last night all of my siblings and their significant others surprised my brother by meeting him and Tracy at the casino for supper. Tracy had made calls to one of my other brothers to send out emails so that we all knew about the event and wanted to make sure we could try to surprise him...(tough task for sure). Then came the "what to give him for a present" phase...we all thought about it and someone mentioned 50 $2.00 dollar bills (as that was what my mom gave everyone when she was alive)...Well on my way to work on friday morning I came up with what I thought was a brilliant idea...(hmmmmmm....idea was good but since I came up with it....guess who should execute it...) The idea was for us all to go together and give him 50 gold dollar coins, 50 quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies...so far so good...easy right?? Well the next part of the idea was to tape them to an old "45" record I had laying around...somehow my brain didn't quite wrap itself around exactly how many coins I was working with...doh....anyway I decided to use 4 records and the "welcome to the 50's" theme...(since all but 2 of us are 50 +)...Anyway, after taping all the coins on the records I discovered...hmmmm...they were flapping a little and I needed to decide on how to keep them in place...(for surely he would want to take them off and use them in the slots....right???) Anyway after much debate I went to Michaels and purchased a frame to mount albums in that was on clearance...(bonus)...and this is how it turned out...:

This isn't a great picture but you will notice I have some guitar stickers on there...I made records with a punch, some black paper and crystal effects and I used a TGF image I colored with copics to give my brother the 50's theme I was going for...My niece asked if it could hang on a wall since it was so heavy...I said I don't really know, I thought he would take it apart and go gambling...my brother replied "NO WAY"...I going to keep this just as it is...so he did really like it...lol,..Here are a couple pictures of the birthday boy...

So I'm wishing my brother a very "Happy 50th" birthday today...

Thanks for stopping by.
Until next time,

Carol

April Calendar Girls

Our wonderful hostess this month was the talented and creative Terry...what a challenge she had for us...

April Challenge

What is a Barn Quilt? A barn quilt is an 8 foot by 8 foot replica of a quilt block made of plywood and hung on the side of old barns here in Wisconsin. There are hundreds throughout the state and I love seeing them up close and personal. Here are some examples (the first picture I pass every day):

My challenge to you is to use one of the following quilt blocks to create this months card:

This is an awesome challenge and it was a challenge indeed...I chose to do the last quilt block as after studying it a bit....I discovered I had made a couple baby quilts many years ago using the same pattern...funny how that goes...sheesh...didn't even recognize it. I must insert here though....I was learning from my friend how to quilt and made up my own way of doing it...and this seemed like the easiest at the time (wrong)...being a novice I didn't measure correctly and nothing lined up...but I was determined to make it work and kept plugging along until I completed the quilt...(note to self....do not cut out all the pieces until you know they are going to work together with your homemade measurements...doh)...oh well....it looked pretty good when I got it finished.

So here is my barn quilt card...does it surprise anyone that black is incorporated here...lol (I couldn't find an appropriate place to add glittah...heehee). I took the challenge to look like a quilt block so did not really add anything else to my card other than the zig-zag embossing and the ric-rac ribbon. I also layered the black and polka dot papers to give added dimension as this makes  the flocked argyle paper stand out more in real life. I did have to add a small pearl in the center and in the middle of each side of the card (hard to see with this pic). I hope this is what Terry had in mind...

Please stop by the rest of the calendar girls blogs and check out their cards. I am sure you won't be disappointed....I can't wait to see what they have done.

Thanks for stopping by,
Until next time.....
Hugs,
Carol

Mo's Challenge #131--flowers

Finally I have gotten a card done once again for Mo's challenge. It has been a long time and it feels go to play along this week. The challenge is to use flowers...anywhere, in your image, on your card, in your dsp...you get the idea. Well this week I chose Mo's image of an angel and her puppy...not only is it adorable but I am able to use this card for a swap hosted by my Sweet friend Paola...it is called "For the love of Angels". I truly believe we are surrounded by angels every day and was excited to play along in her swap..

I chose to color this beauty with a blue robe and used blue and purple on her wings all done in copic markers. Of course she has glitter on her wings..I rarely am able to do a card without SOME glittah...lol I used SU bashful blue for the base of the card, the flowers and the background oval. I also used some of the spica pens to highlight her hair although I don't believe you can see it too well. I used a embossing folder gifted to me by wonderful, kind, generous friend Linda. I love the folder and thought it would work well here. It gives the angel the attention she deserves. I put pearls in the centers of the flowers to keep the blue/white theme going. I mounted the flowers on dimensionals and placed them over the swirly leaves on the folder. All in all I like the simple effect of the card.

Thank you for stopping by to check out my Angel and her puppy.

Until next time,
Hugs,
Carol

DDD April Card

Hi all, it is once again time to post our cards for April....our lovely hostesses for this month are Laura Jean (LJ) for the Divas and  Miss Terry for the Darlings...They put their lovely heads together and came up with kits with a masculine theme . This is my take on our theme from my awesome kit LJ sent us.

I used the SCS card layout SC380 for my card. I used SU early espresso for the base of my card and SU old olive as the accent color for the great plaid dsp LJ sent. Our image is from the A Muse Art Stamps "Hey, Man" set.

All the circles are cut from the Little Yellow Bicycle (Paradise collection) LJ sent along. I thought this was a fun way to show off the front and back of some of the papers she sent as they were all great. I colored my lawn mower in copics and added glaze to the body to give it a shinier effect...(although it isn't as shiny as I expected it to get...will have to use another brand next time). The button is from PTI and I topped the brown button with a brad from Paper Studio mounted on a dimensional. I chose to used the plaid dsp on the inside as well...I used SU vanilla and mounted the plaid dsp on that...I then used a scrap from the same paper and mounted the sentiment LJ provded on that...

The dsp had these cute little flowers on it and I thought that they were the perfect embellishment for the inside of the card...

Thank you for stopping by and taking a look at my card. Please stop by the other "Divas" and "Darlings" to check out their wonderful creations.

Until next time....
Hugs,
Carol
