DDD Challenge--March 2014-Umbrellas
Hi all, it is once again time for our monthly duel and like always it is a ton of fun. Again I am a bit late but it is still the 15th so technically, I'm close to on time. The hostesses for this month were Terry for the Dazzlers and our own LJ (Laura Jean) for the Divas. Here is what LJ wrote:
Hello Divas ~
It's time for the March duel! Like most of you (except Kelly - who I am throwing virtual snow-balls at right now) I am so ready for spring and summer! One of the many signs of spring is rain and umbrellas, and as March is National Umbrella Month, we are going with an Umbrella them this month.
The details/contents of the kit are below. I have added a little bit of a twist to the challenge (Terry is not doing this - that I know). I found these 7 Gypsies Manilla Folders awhile ago at HL and I thought it would be fun for us to use these as your card base. It's not required, but It's just an idea I thought I would toss out there.
Stamps (image and sentiment) : Unity Stamps
Paper: Cosmo Cricket Earth Love Collections (Includes Journal ling type cards)
Accessories: Buttons (mostly PTI and Basic Grey), Ribbon (SU!, American Crafts, Offray), Vanilla Brads (SU!), Hodgepodge Clips & Ribbon Holder (SU), Mulberry Paper Flowers (Prima), & 7 Gypsies Manilla Folder.
Can't wait to see what you post on the 15th! Happy Crafting!
Love LJ!
Now as far as I am concerned....I will gladly trade winter coat, boots and snow for spring and summer rain and umbrellas, hands down no contest. It has been so dang cold and snowy here this year that I am doubly sick of winter. Anyway, on to the duel. As LJ asked I did use my file folder for the base of my card. I struggled with how I was going to use it but eventually came up with this,
When I got the kit I immediately looked at the pretty dsp and colored my image. I put crystal effects on the umbrella and the gals boots, I then took white stickles and made rain drops on the umbrella and their clothe Now came the tricky part.....keeping everything together until I finally put the card together. I must say that was as difficult as figuring out how to incorporate the file folder as the main card. I finally decided to cut the folder down a bit so it would be a standard A2 size.l I then covered the whole file with pistachio pudding SU cardstock and started building from there. LJ had included card stock journal cards from the dsp so I cut one of them down, then fussy cut my image and mounted it on my new journal card. I then had to try and figure out how to hold the flap down. I used the pistachio pudding card stock topped with a bit of one of the other dsp's and tacked them down with the ivory brads. I tied a ribbon through one of the buttons and attached it to this strip so the flap could be inserted under the strip and be held down with the button..
Inside I took more of the base color and added another strip of the dsp to the inside. I mounted the sentiment to the same dsp as I used on the strip on the front of the card. I really was surprised that it turned out pretty well.
Thanks so much for stopping by, I am sure you will be impressed with the other creations the Duelers have on their blogs. Please stop by and check them out.
Until next time,
Hugs,
Carol
