Calendar Girls Christmas in July

Hi all, I'm late again but am posting on the day...just late in the day that this challenge is due...sigh...had to work at the Bridal shop until just a little bit ago so needless to say...I haven't been on the computer all day. As you may remember from last month, we moved and Michelle graciously took over my month of June. I then took her month and I decided to try and get a jump start on Christmas in July with some inspiration from my fabulous Calendar girls...

Here is my card:
I bought this little wren stamp at a garage sale for next to nothing and thought he would be cute for a Christmas card. I used a Christmas poinsettia embossing folder to emboss on my white layer. Inside the white layer I cut a large oval...I mounted real red paper behind the white layer and cut a  smaller oval to fram the image and the inside of the larger white oval. I then glued the wren to the card base and mounted the white layer on top of the whole card...I used red glitter inside the poinsettia's and gold glitter for their centers...the leaves were done in green and I used iridescent glitter to highlight the little scrolls along the sides. Inside I will stamp a Christmas sentiment...this is not quite how I envisioned my card to be but it's not far off...

As a bonus we were to share a Christmas memory or tradition. I remember as a little girl at Christmas time we would go to my dad's moms house and celebrate the holiday with them...there were always tons of aunts/uncles and cousins and we would do our Christmas program lines and put on a little play for the adults. After we were allowed to open ONE present...after all the eating and festivities we would pile into the car and go home to sleep and wait for Santa...while we were asleep and after the midnight service at their church my grandma and uncle would drive to our house with a car LOADED with gifts for all of us...we had a large family and us kids would wake up nice and early and clamor down the stair where our stockings were piled high with goodies on the stair rail and the tree was so full underneath that it could barely be seen...and of course we'd whisper..."he came, Santa came"...oh how fun it was and I think the best part was the awe and wonder the day brought...we never really took for granted that he would be there and were always in awe of the wonderful fact that he didn't forget us...it still brings a smile to my face to remember those amazing Christmas mornings...(my poor parents, grandma and uncle were very sleep deprived but the tradition continued until my grandma passed away)...

If you get a chance to visit the other Calendar girls...please do as I am sure you will not be disappointed..

Thanks for stopping by,
Until next time...
Hugs,
Carol

This is a stunning card--ALL CArol! I love the oval and how you used it at an angle. I also think the glitter on the swirls is just perfect.

The story of your family is so sweet--I am glad you have such wonderful family traditions in your past!
