COF January challenge

Hi all,
I'm late for the start of the year COF challenge...(I hope this isn't how the year is going to be ....yikes)..Our wonderful Sharon gave us this challenge:

January Challenge!
Hostess: Sharon
2013 is here! What a great time to clear out the old to make way for the new.

* For this challenge, I would like to see you use both old stash and new stash to create your card/project.

* To add a little fun to the challenge, I'd love to see you try a new technique -- something you've never done before. You can check out google, youtube, or even the SCS forums and galleries for inspiration!

* Make sure you tell me what's new and what's old and post a link or give a little description of the technique you used.

What a fun challenge...(I think I may have to use  this part on my house."2013 is here! What a great time to clear out the old to make way for the new.") on to the challenge and my card...

As per the challenge I have used both old and new with a new technique to me...First of all, what is old...the artichoke base paper, the embossing folder, the nesties I used to cut out the immie, the stamp (from Cornish Heritage), the embossing ink and powder and the water color paper the image is on....What is new....the Tim Holtz daubers and the technique...

For this technique, I first stamped and embossed this pretty flower on water color paper. Then I took Tim Holtz distress daubers and colored in different spots on the paper..once I had the image pretty much covered with the different colored inks I took the lightest (in this case the yellow), and went over the whole image with the dauber making sure all the colors blended..I like how this turned out and plan on using it for a sympathy card for my friend who lost her dad last Friday. After making this card I took it one step further by covering the whole image with versamark and then sprinkling iridescent ice embossing powder over the whole image and embossing the image...It had a pretty sparkly effect however I felt the beautiful glittery effect subdued the colors too much for my taste.

Thank your for stopping by and checking out my card, I do appreciate it...Please stop by all the rest of the Crafters in Faith and see what beautiful creations the have made..

Until next time,

Calendar Girls January post 2013---woohoo...

Hi all, here we are again...the Calendar girls received this awesome challenge from the amazing went like this:

Miss January: Jeanette

This is a PHOTO INSPIRATION Challenge. But there’s a catch! You have to choose your own photo.

I want you to find a photo – it can be a picture you’ve taken (of a family member, a scenic drive, a food you’ve cooked, whatever) or it can be a picture someone else has taken. Maybe you even found it on the internet. After you’ve chosen the PHOTO you want to use, create a card/project inspired by that photo.

Of course on your blog post – when you show us your creation – we also want to see the photo that inspired you.

How fun is this? Well I have many photos that inspire me but I really tend to gravitate towards photos of the outside with shadows etc....(like my black and white color scheme...kind of stark)...

I'm not sure why I love these kinds of photos but I do and have taken to trying my hand at trying to re-create them or something similar. I found this photo on pinterest and of course pinned

Here is my card:

I found this stamp at either JoAnn's or Michael's awhile ago and just had to have it...(insert an eye roll in here,,,[like I really need any more stamps]). Did I say had to have it...I MEANT...I really NEEDED it...anyway, I got it. I used umber card stock from Archiver's for the base and butter cream prisma paper for the background and image. I then sponged 4 different colors of Tim Holtz distressed inks on the prisma paper to create the background. I cut out the oval and mounted it on umber paper that had been cut out with a nestie (can't remember the name right now....sorry). Anyway, I kind of like how this turned out...I hope you do too.

Thanks for stopping by. Please check out the other calendar girls blogs and see what inspired them...Also, I want to shout out a big WELCOME to our newest calendar girl.....Linda Hart...I just know you are going to have fun with this group...

Until next time,

Mystery Image Swap

Hi all, I'm stopping by to share with you the cute image Jeanette sent us for this swap. For those of you who have not heard, we are a group of gals who all get the same image and have a couple of months to create 4 cards and return to the current hostess....When we get our swaps back we have new images to work is so much fun seeing all the creations...This round Jeanette sent us a pizza box image along with a couple other stamps. One a sentiment and a piece of pizza...I have to admit this was a real challenge to me but I did manage to make a card....

Here is my card:

I used my Tim Holtz brick embossing folder then brushed on distress ink in olive, mahogany and frayed corduroy. I then cut out the window from new nesties I got at Archivers..I placed my image on Umber paper and then laid a sheet of acetate over the opening and then drew lines to indicate window panes...I also used the sentiment and piece of pizza on the inside:

I colored the pizza piece with copics cut it out and then covered it with crystal effects. Once it was dry I mounted it on the inside of the card over the sentiment...I actually like how it turned out as it's pretty close to the image I had in my mind...
Thank you Jeanette for the fun image..and the challenge...try and stop by and see the other mystery swappers cards...I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for stopping by....

Until next time,

DDD January 2013

Well here we are, time for another duel and this month LJ and Terry start us off with this challenge:

Greetings Divas!

I know you have all been anxiously awaiting for the details on the January Kit I mailed out.....I had so much fun putting it together.

Terry suggested getting away from the typical winter themes so this one is a little different this month:

January is "Book Blitz Month".....use a stamp with books and/or reading as a theme We would also like to then add in your post who your favorite author is, or your favorite book and why.

Here are the contents of the kit (I've listed the companies as best I can remember)

Stamps: ABC Primer Collection // Graphic 45. Images are stamped with either Memento Tuxedo black or Memento Rich Cocoa ink on PTI White. It's copic/prisma friendly.
All DP & smaller tag piece :This & That Charming Collection // Echo Park
Ribbon: Green Polka Dot Ribbon (PTI), Wide Brown Ribbon (SU), brown Gingham Ribbon (American Crafts). Silver hodgepodge & spiral clip (SU) Brads - Basic Grey, Buttons (PTI and Amuse). Chipboard Square (unknown).

Hope you enjoy the kit! Let me know if there are any questions....

We got a great kit from LJ and I was able to use quite a bit of it.....

I used 4 of the dsp..3 on the front and one on the inside....

I also used 3 of the images LJ sent along. The books, the apple and of course this darling little girl. I colored all the images with copics and on the apple I used crystal effects to give the apple a super shiny effect.. I also used them on the little girls head to make her hair shiny as well. On the book strap I used a silver pen on the buckle and the little button holes.  I used one of the awesome ribbons to make a bow and clamped the middle of it with a brad from the kit...

As far as my favorite author....I have several I like but I really like Nicholas Sparks. I can get so wrapped up in reading his books I forget about time and am totally involved in the story. I really like to read to escape (kind of like a vacation), so when I read his books I just jump right feels like I am a part of the story and that is what I love....

I hope you like my card...

Thanks so much for stopping by, please make a stop at all the duelers' blogs to see what everyone has created...

Until next time....
