January DDD--Soup Get Well

Well here we are....starting out 2016 with a new challenge for the Dueling Darlings. This month our wonderful hostesses' are Tracie for the Dazzlers and Barb for the Divas. The kit I got from Barb was awesome. Full of all kinds of goodies. The image is a Whipper Snapper design--Chicken Soup--- Stampin up DSP Comfort Cafe---and buttons, brads, ribbons and small pearls. Lots of fun things to play with. I loved the colors of the dsp. I tried to match the colors on my image with the dsp. I found a sketch in my pile of sketch challenges I have printed out and went to work. I used white linen paper as the base of my card and built from there. I felt that the card would be a bit too busy looking on the front with the dsp if there was too many embellishments. I chose a taupe button and threaded a piece of ribbon through the button holes. Over all I think  keeping the embellishments on the simple side accented the wonderful image Barb chose.

On the inside of the card I used left over dsp and cut the paper into 1"pieces and arranged them into a diamond shape on the inside. I then put the little taupe pearls on the sides of the middle square. They were too cute not to include on the card. I managed to get some extra tape runner on the inside of the card once it was finished. I got the tape off but not without a smudge to prove I messed up. I took a left over piece of the dsp and placed it ''over the smudge to complete the card.

As an extra request we were asked to share our favorite soup recipe. I have a few favorite recipes but one of my favorites is Chicken Corn Chowder. I ran across the recipe in a weight watchers magazine and it has turned out to be a favorite in our family.

Cheddar Corn Chowder

Cooking spray ½ cups all purpose flour
1 lb bite sized pieces chicken 2 cups reduced fat milk
1 cup chopped onion 1 can whole kernel corn drained
1 cup diced red pepper 3 oz shredded cheddar cheese
1 tblsp minced garlic ½ tsp salt
4½cups chicken broth ¼ tsp pepper
1 ¾cups peeled & diced potato

Coat dutch oven with cooking spray. Add bacon & cook until
crisp. Add chicken, onion, bell pepper & garlic to bacon fat in pan
& saute’ 5 minutes. Add broth & potato. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce
reduce heat & simmer 20 minutes or until potato is tender. Add corn
stir well.

Place flour in a medium bowl. Gradually add milk, stirring with a whisk
until blended. Add milk mixture to soup& cook over medium heat 15
minutes or until thick, stirring frequently. Remove from heat, stir in Cheese and bacon bits and enjoy!!

I want to thank you for stopping by. Please visit the other duelers. I am sure you won't be disappointed.
Until next time,
Hugs,
Carol
