May Calendar Girls--Miss May Barb

So this month the lovely talented Barb (Miss May) got to chose our challenge...and here is what she said:

May Challenge

Here is the Challenge for the Month of May…………. Memorial Day--a day of honor, remembrance, family picnics, parades, flags placed at cemeteries, concerts and the unofficial start to summer! So the challenge this month for the Calendar Girls is to ink up a patriotic stamp, get out the red/white/blue paper and DSP to post a card that shouts respect to your country and those who have served in the past. I would also like you to note in your post on the 28th what is in your plans this year or what typically has been part of your celebration in the past years on Memorial Day. Paola--my challenge to you is to also show us your Canadian Patriotism with a card that reflects the colors and images that you are proud of.

Barb (Miss May)

As Barb said make a card that shouts respect to our country.  A couple of months ago my Sweet friend Vicki was over for our monthly card making evening and she brought this adorable stamp...I loved him the minute I saw him and Vicki graciously offered to let me stamp some images. When Barb challenged us to make cards of thanks and honor for memorial day, I just KNEW I had to color him up.....

It just so happened that I had purchased a copic book that had instructions and tutorials for coloring scenery and other images....this wonderful image happened to be in the book and I used the colors that they had suggested (some I would have never put together or even thought of). I like how he turned out. Now I didn't have any red/white/blue dsp that I felt was a good pairing for this card, so I cut up strips of SU real red card stock and a SU navy blue rectangle and mounted the blue and red on a whisper white piece of paper which I then mounted on a navy background. I cut my image and sentiment and mounted them both on red and blue card stock and stuck them to the flag.  I had two bright stars to add to the sentiment but no little stars for the flag so I hand drew the stars in white and then added diamond white glitter to the stars...The inside is currently blank...This did turn out pretty close to what I had pictured in my head...

Every year we take at least one day and go to our home town and decorate the graves of my hubby's parents and stop and pay respect to my parents graves as well (my brother decorates their graves). Some years we do a picnic, in past years we went on our pontoon but this year we are moving so it will be quite a hectic weekend...I do have to say though....my dad, father-in-law, brother,  2 brother-in-laws and soon to be son-in-law have and continue to serve our country either actively or in a different capacity...I am so proud of them and so grateful to them and all of the others before them as well as the families who have graciously fought for our freedoms so that we can live the life we do...Thank you to each and every one of you...you truly are a blessing...

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my card. Be sure you stop and see the rest of the calendar girls blogs...I am certain you will not be disappointed..

Until next time,
Hugs,
Carol
